Bang a drum ... Billy Cobham will perform the opening act.

Preparations are underway for the city's first International Jazz Festival to be held during the upcoming Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2003 at Dubai Media City (DMC) on January 29, 30, 31. The festival promises three days of entertainment, fun, culture and lots of live music, catering to all tastes.

Says Anthony Younes, managing director, Chillout Productions, "Providing more than just good music, the objective behind the Jazz festival is to bring world class jazz musicians to perform for residents and visitors of Dubai Shopping Festival while encompassing and reflecting the essence of Dubai's cosmopolitan society. We believe the Dubai International Jazz Festival will become a rendezvous for Jazz musicians and music enthusiasts and one of the major events during the DSF 2003."

Commenting on the preparations of the event, Younes commented that confirmations from artists are on schedule. Further information about the Jazz Festival is available at dubaitalents@chilloutproductions.com.

Music will range from Afro, Latin, and Oriental Jazz to more contemporary forms of jazz such as the blues and funk.

"The entire show, from beginning to end will be pure entertainment. All performers are equally talented. We do not have an opening, filler or grand finale. Each band has its unique style and experience," commented Younes. "In fact, the father of drummers, Billy Cobham who will be accompanied by great artists and musicians, will perform the opening act."
