We believe that our three properties have lots to offer in terms of unique experience in magnificent surroundings, five-star facilities and great human capital.

“Access to the global sales and marketing resources of Carlson Rezidor will be key to the development of this cluster, and we believe that through this collaboration, we shall take our three properties to a higher level. Moreover, Mauritius is a high-end destination, and our team members are looking forward to growing with Carlson Rezidor.”

Tourist arrivals go up 8.9pc

Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean, about 2,000km off the southeastern coast of Africa. The island is surrounded by more than 150km of sandy beaches, and the turquoise lagoons are protected from the open sea by the world’s third largest coral reef.

The number of tourists visiting Mauritius rose 8.9 per cent in the first half of this year when compared to the same period last year, with more arrivals from Asia, official figures have showed.

Tourism is an important component of the Mauritian economy and a key source of hard currency for the Indian Ocean island state, best known for its luxury spas and beaches.

Arrivals increased to 534,182 during the period from 490,697 a year ago, Statistics Mauritius said. Numbers from Asia rose 21.3 per cent to 98,477, with visitors from China rising 31.8 per cent.

The number of tourists visiting from Europe, which accounts for two-thirds of visitors to Mauritius, rose by 8.3 per cent to 288,374.

Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is working towards changing the image of the country from that of a honeymooner’s paradise, to a complete holiday destination for families. This change in focus has been kept in mind while working to meet expectations of travellers among the families, wedding groups, sports, culture, adventure, and heritage-focused segments.
