May Fair proves its ‘cool’

May Fair is a young, fashionable and connected Central London property

THE May Fair Hotel is one of the landmarks that has distinguished London for generations and it has now been recognised as one of the UK capital’s doyennes of style.

Situated in the heart of Mayfair, the property was recently crowned the Official Hotel of London Fashion Week, the official hotel of The BFI London Film Festival and has just been recognised as one of the ‘Coolest Hotels’ in the UK by the prestigious CoolBrands  2010 survey.

These partnerships are a testament to the hotel’s style, glamour and service and to what it has become since its 2006 revival; a young, fashionable and connected Central London hotel.

The May Fair has an impressive list of ‘must see’ individual parts adding up to, simply, one of the best hotels in London. From the Crystal Room, to the 201-seat private theatre/cinema, the largest of its kind in central London, to the May Fair Bar.

With a cocktail list to suit all visitors the bar is a must-visit venue and a regular on the ‘spotted’ sections of upmarket magazines. Across the lobby Amba offers diners a quality of style, service and product that is rarely found in a hotel restaurant.

The May Fair Spa is an urban retreat of the finest kind with an array of treatments for men and women and a calendar of unique treatments inspired by the scents and tastes of the seasons.

The 406 bedrooms are spacious with contemporary furnishings and luxury touches with Bang and Olufsen TVs and iPod docks. However, it is the 12 signature suites that distinguish the hotel, offering the ultimate in glamour and style.

The suites range from understated elegance to complete decadence and offer colour palettes from a vibrant hot pink to muted naturals. Featuring furniture from top designers hand chosen by the hotel design team, internationally sourced bespoke beds and individually-designed handmade carpets and furnishings add flair and class to some of the most stunning rooms in London.

All-time favourites seem to be the Azure, complete with a secret second entrance and private lift, the Schiaparelli (pictured), arguably one of the most breathtaking rooms in London, and the Penthouse, which comes equipped with its own bar and a roof terrace large enough to hold 70 people absorbing the stunning views over London
Most of all though, the hotel offers a discretion of service that pre-empts requests, considers every eventuality and serves without distraction – a true five-star service for one of Europe’s finest properties.
