JORDAN’S Mice industry will get a boost this month with the staging of Eventopedia 2011: The Art and Science of Events, which aims to provide a platform for events professionals to learn, share knowledge and experience and network.

And the event’s organiser believes Jordan could become a regional Mice hub in the future.

Eventopedia, which takes place at Jordan Museum, Amman, on February 22 and 23, is organised by Events UnLimited, of Jordan, and plans to establish the country’s events industry as a driving force for tourism as well as raising the country’s profile as a Mice destination, building and raising local capacity in professional event management and boosting the competitiveness of the events industry and its support services.

The Mice industry is well recognised for its contribution to economic growth through both job creation and foreign currency generation across a broad range of services, not just events venues but hotels, service and transport providers and leisure facilities.

And the country holds impressive possibilities as a Mice destination according to conference manager Mika Thuening, who told journalists: “The potential to grow the Mice industry in Jordan is great whether in trade shows, meetings, cultural events or others.

“The impact that a professional, well-built Mice industry could have on the development of Jordan’s tourism sector and tourism receipts is huge. With a strong events industry, Jordan could emerge as a prime destination for the Mice industry in the region."
