Abu Dhabi airport ... aims to handle 45 million passengers per year.
Abu Dhabi Airports said work is progressing well at its midfield terminal building (MTB) in the UAE emirate and the project will be 70 per cent completed by the end of this year.

On completion, the MTB will become the largest singular building in Abu Dhabi, and one of the region’s most architecturally impressive, eco-friendly and innovative structures, revealed a senior official of the state-owned company spearheading the development of the emirate's aviation infrastructure.

It is the centerpiece of Abu Dhabi Airports’ multibillion-dollar capital investment programme, designed to create additional capacity to handle the increase in passenger traffic.

Once operational, the overall airport capacity will increase to 45 million passengers per year, said Ali Majed Al Mansoori, the chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, at a function to mark the UAE Civil Aviation Day.

It is celebrated on October 5 every year with the aim of highlighting the country’s rich aviation history, current developments in the sector, and the safety and efficiency of air transport as a mode of travel.

Earlier, he took an aerial tour of the MTB, along with Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the director general of the GCAA, to review the construction progress.

Commenting on the development, Sultan Al Mansouri said: "In the last few decades, the UAE has seen unprecedented growth in air transport, and I am pleased to be celebrating the UAE Civil Aviation Day by witnessing the progress in the industry’s iconic MTB."

Abu Dhabi Airports chairman said it is a day to celebrate and recognise the achievements of the UAE in the aviation sector over the last eight decades.

"The cutting-edge development and extraordinary progress made would not have been possible without the unlimited support of the UAE’s wise leadership and the vision of Abu Dhabi government to establish the emirate as a world-class aviation hub," added Al Mansoori.-TradeArabia News Service
