Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne celebrates 150 years

Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and inviting guests to bask in a series of special, exciting events and offers under the motto "Beyond Imagination".

Nestled amongst the peaks of the Swiss Alps, a tale of grandeur and hospitality was born. In 1873, the company Bucher & Durrer opened the very first hotel, the Grand Hotel, on the so-called Alp Tritt that they had renamed “Bürgenstock”, marking the beginning of a journey towards excellence. Two hotels were opened in succession, the Park Hotel and the Palace Hotel and, each one imbued with the pioneering spirit and an unwavering commitment to luxury.

In addition to the hotels, the launch of the groundbreaking Bürgenstock Funicular in 1888, first electric cable car of Switzerland, and the daring Hammetschwand Lift in 1905, highest outdoor elevator in Europe, attracted a wealthy international clientele, from aristocrats to industrials and bankers. For its 150th Anniversary, the Bürgenstock Resort will offer Beyond Imagination offers and other special events to its guests from April to September. The celebration kicks off with the reopening of the Cliff Walk, Alpine Golf, and Swiss chalet-style Taverne 1879 after the winter season. The Cliff Walk unveils a new heritage path, while Alpine Golf offers visitors a chance to golf just like Audrey Hepburn did and Taverne 1879 offers Alpine-inspired specialties.

As part of the Beyond Imagination offers, the Bürgenstock Resort calls forth all pioneers to embark on a journey of self-discovery and renewal. With special package "Biographer-in-Residence”, guests are invited to pen their own memoirs and write their own story, just like the resort’s pioneers. During the 3 nights’ stay at the Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa or Palace Hotel, biographers will have up to five hours of 1 on 1 interviews, scheduled during nature walks, public areas or within the privacy of their rooms, with a 60-minutes full body massage session, a 3-course dinner for the biographer and their guest, in addition to receiving 20 paperback copies and a digital e-book of their biography.
