Qatar Airways used ITB to announce further routes to its rapidly growing network with services to Brazil and Argentina adding the final continent to the company’s service map.

South America’s two largest cities, Sao Paulo in Brazil and the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, will join the five new destinations already announced – Bengaluru, Copenhagen, Ankara, Tokyo and Barcelona – to complete the line-up of new routes direct from Doha.

In addition the airline began phasing in capacity increases through additional frequencies and deployment of larger aircraft on selected routes, including Geneva, Stockholm, Colombo, Goa, Chennai, Amritsar and Kathmandu, from the beginning of the northern summer schedule on March 28.

Announcing the expansion chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “By adding Brazil and Argentina, we can finally say Qatar Airways has become a truly global airline touching all parts of the world.”

The airline currently has more than 200 new aircraft on order, worth in excess of $40 billion, for delivery over the next few years and the $14.5-billion New Doha International Airport is due to open in the Qatari capital next year becoming the airline’s new home.
