THE Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Aldar Golf, Yas Links Golf Club, Saadiyat Beach Club and the Montgomery, Dubai will be among the Middle East representatives at this year’s International Golf Travel Market 2009 taking place in Andalucia, Spain.
Held in Malaga from November 16 to 19, the annual exhibition attracted more than 1,400 golf tourism professionals from 63 countries in 2008, and this year organisers Reed Travel Exhibition is hoping for 400 booths and 350 buyers.
Together with IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) and the host destination Andalucía, the organiser is expecting a high-quality four-day trade only event which runs on a pre-scheduled appointment basis, a gala awards dinner on the last night, and the IGTM golf tournament.
IAGTO, the global trade organisation for the golf tourism industry, has a membership of 1,165 accredited golf tour operators plus golf resorts and courses, hotels, airlines, tourist boards and other partners in 77 countries. Its operators control over 80 per cent of golf holiday packages sold worldwide outside of Asia.
Mark Walsh, group exhibition director, RTA said, “Malaga is a vibrant, cultural city easily accessible with a state of the art conference centre, first class hotels and provides all the necessary requirements to stage a successful IGTM. I am delighted to have the opportunity to once again be able to work alongside the professional and dedicated team from Andalucia.”
The region is one of Europe’s most popular golf destinations and Malaga is its ideal gateway offering year round good weather and more than one third of the country’s golf courses. Courses include the PGA rated Valderrama, Los Naranjos designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sotogrande and El Paraiso Golf & Country Club. Marbella holds Las Brisas, Aloha Golf, Los Naranjos and La Quinta, which all lie near Marbella.
