Munich giving travellers a choice – smoking lounges

Share

Munich Airport continued its trend setting policies in passenger oriented facilities with the opening of three state-of-the-art smoking lounges late last year.
These are the first smoking lounges to open at an airport in Germany. Two of the lounges are located on the non-Schengen Level 05 and one on the Schengen Level 04. They were installed and operated by Terminal 2 Management Company Munich Airport in cooperation with Japan Tobacco International (JTI). The lounges are open to the public and free of charge.
The smoking lounges offer smokers a comfortable opportunity to retreat and at the same time the modern ventilation system prevents people outside the lounge from being exposed to the smoke.
Due to its service oriented developments Munich Airport has been awarded Europe’s Best Airport by its passengers. September 2008 marked the fourth consecutive year that Munich Airport’s CEO Dr Michael Kerkloh has received the award.
Every year the British independent aviation research institute Skytrax conducts a survey among over eight million passengers worldwide to select the world’s best airports. The interviewees evaluated 165 airports worldwide on the basis of 33 criteria, such as quality of passenger handling and passenger services, staff courtesy and efficiency, shopping and leisure amenities and transit facilities.
