Building work for the Dh1.2 billion hotel project on the Palm Jumeirah has started according to Rahim Abu Omar, chief executive Habtoor Hotels.
In 2002 the Al Habtoor Group finalised the purchase of a plot at the Palm Jumeirah, making it among the first to own a major site in this now world renowned man made island.
Al Habtoor Group, owners of Crescent Plot No 34, is an essential part of the island that has an approximate size of 47,541.36 sq m.  Among the many vacant areas at the time of purchase, this particular location was selected for its best shoreline and favourable waters ideal for most types of water sports activities.
Commenting on this venture, Rahim Abu Omar said, very soon the Habtoor Island Resort & Spa will rise to its splendour. It will be the 7th  hotel property under Habtoor Hotels’ management, expected to open its doors in 2010.
The resort, to be built by Al Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, will feature 217 rooms and suites, 91 luxurious apartments and four exclusive villas.
The rooms and suites will be spread out, some with private swimming pools and gardens, and all with natural tropical plant barriers giving the impression of living in a tropical forest with imported plants.
The food and beverage facilities include 10 themed restaurants and bars, including a floating seafood restaurant and a rooftop fine dining restaurant. Conference and banquet facilities include two ballrooms, multi- unctional rooms and fitted boardrooms spread over 2,350 sqe m.
An extensive spa and gym facilities of 2,000 sq m, swimming pool (lap pool, children’s pool, leisure pool with infinity edge), three tennis courts, games room and children’s playroom are planned.
