Shangri-La luxury openings for 2009

SHANGRI-LA Hotels and Resorts will have 10 general managers and vice presidents on hand at ILTM at stand P133 to discuss the group’s entry into an exciting period of expansion.
In 2009, Shangri-La’s hospitality will be brought to new luxury hotels in Vancouver, Tokyo, The Maldives and Paris.
The new Tokyo hotel is scheduled to open on March 2, and is the group’s first property in Japan. The 202 room hotel occupying the top 11 floors of the 37 storey, mixed use Marunouchi Trust Tower main building, is in a prime location with views adjacent to Tokyo Station.
The hotel’s interior is designed by Hirsh Bedner Associates, based in Santa Monica, California, while the Horizon Club lounge, Piacere, the signature Italian restaurant and Nadaman, the authentic Japanese restaurant are designed by Andre Fu of Hong Kong based AFSO.
There is a grand staircase, elegant chandeliers and bold carpets, complemented by a distinct touch of Japanese influence. In addition, flower arrangements by Nicolai Bergmann, one of the most celebrated foreign artists in Japan for his contemporary floral designs, will be featured prominently. Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo is the first hotel in the world to feature Bergmann’s works in all areas.
Guest rooms will be a minimum of 50 sq m, among the largest in the city. Of the hotel’s six suites, the Presidential Suite located on Level 36 stretches across 269 sq m and features an extended, two storey high ceiling, providing a spacious and luxurious interior. The group’s Horizon Club services will also be made available at the new Tokyo hotel.
Piacere, The Lobby Lounge and Nadaman will offer quality food and services, afternoon teas will be served in the Lobby Lounge. The Shangri-La Ballroom, three function rooms and a wedding chapel ‘The Pavilion’ are all located on Level 27 and come complete with state-of-the-art audio visual systems.
CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, featuring ancient Chinese and Himalayan healing therapies, will also be introduced in Japan for the first time. The spa will offer six treatment rooms, including a couple’s treatment suite. In addition to CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La’s signature treatments, exclusive treatments only available in Tokyo will be developed. Adjacent to the spa and overlooking the Imperial Palace will be a 20 metre swimming pool and an exclusive membership health club.
Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages 57 hotels under the Shangri-La and Traders brands with a room inventory of over 28,000. The hotels are five star deluxe properties featuring extensive luxury facilities and services and are located in Australia, mainland China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Oman, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
The group has over 50 projects under development all over the world.
