The world famous London taxi cab will be seen on the streets of Bahrain by December. The newly formed Arabian Taxi Company recently announced plans to import 200 of the latest TX4 model into the Gulf state.
The agreement was struck between the Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and Euro Motors, Bahrain News Agency reported.
The London taxi is known the world over and facilities in the latest model include a 13 inch LCD screen and facilities for passengers with special needs including wheelchair users.
Credit card payments for journeys will be catered for. The taxis will be white, with the roofs in black and white, like a chequered flag, and can transport up to five passengers. There will be the standard privacy partition between the driver and passengers.
BDB deputy chief executive for special projects Osama Al Absi said the initiative was aimed at improving the service offered to taxi passengers in Bahrain.
Al Absi said that initially 50 cars would be operated by December by the new company which will employ 830 Bahraini nationals.
The cost of travelling in a London style cab will be the same as other taxis, he added.
