Although for the period January to May 2008 arrivals of tourists in Cyprus reached 682,614 (compared to 681,632 in the corresponding period of 2007), an increase of 0.1 per cent, government statistics for the period January to April 2008 show that revenue from tourism is estimated to be $394 million compared to $415 million in the corresponding period of 2007, a decrease of 5.0 per cent.
The average length of stay for visitors is nine days [down from 9.4 in 2007], with average expenditure per person $930 – down from $1,026.
Biggest spenders on a daily basis went to the Irish with $173 per day, followed by Russians spending $165. The lowest spenders were the Swedes, who spent an average of $81 per day.
