All his tours are private, designed around the visitors’ personal preferences. A typical tour would generally include three or four sites in a day and each of the sites selected can be combined with others to make a packaged theme. An example itinerary would be Alexandra, Liliesleaf and the Apartheid Museum combined into the Apartheid Story tour.

“I prefer linking sites together such as above and telling the story of how each site relates to the other,” said Binckes. “Whilst some of the places that I take visitors to are not on the normal tourist route (Alexandra, Vlakplaas, Sophiatown, Sharpville) when I do take visitors to the more visited places like Soweto I include certain monuments and places that are not part of the normal tourist visit.”
“Though the places that we visit are important, rather it is the telling of stories which illustrate our history which makes visitors have an experience rather than a tour,” he said.
Prices (for agents – direct bookings are charged at 25 per cent on top of these prices) for a full day tour of Johanneburg based on a minimum of two people is $198 per person, or from 3 to 6 people $173 per person. For a full day A Taste of the History of South Africa Tour per person it is $210 for two people or $185 for 3 to 6 people.
Full day includes all entrances, lunch (but not drinks) and mineral water in the vehicle. Transport is provided in an air conditioned luxury VW Sharan. For groups larger than six people a separate quote is available.
