Four Seasons capitalises on the capital city

Four Seasons Hotel Damascus plans to make the most of the ancient city being named Capital of Arab Culture 2008 by UNESCO. Rich in heritage and claiming to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, Damascus is well placed to assume the cultural mantle from Algiers, which held the title last year.
Situated beside a public garden and ancient mosque in the heart of Damascus, the Four Seasons Hotel is the ideal place from which to explore this age old destination during its celebratory year. Within easy reach of embassies, business, retail and cultural sites, guests can explore the many theatrical, musical and literary events and talks taking place throughout the city.
The hotel management supports top and emerging Syrian artists, and will permanently showcase their work throughout its halls and prime public areas in partnership with the country’s premier contemporary arts galleries. Guests can easily explore, admire and acquire Syrian art during their stay.
The Syrian government plans to infuse the city neighbourhoods with a wide variety of interesting events aimed at inspiring both residents and visitors to appreciate creativity of all forms, from artists in residence to workshops for the youth.
Once the centre of an empire stretching from the Atlantic coast to central Asia, Damascus is an inspiring historical destination, but also offers the best in contemporary culture. Near the hotel are many ancient sites and souks, as well as the festive atmosphere created by street poetry, music in the gardens and drama in cafés and public squares.
Last month the Damascus hotel announced the appointment of Martin Rhomberg as the new general manager. In his new role, Rhomberg will help lead the management team to further success as well as ensuring the Hotel maintains correct operations. He will also focus on developing the skills of local professionals, and secure the hotel’s position as one of the leading food and beverage products in the city.
Rhomberg’s career with Four Seasons started in 2000, when he was appointed director of food and beverage at the Four Seasons Hotel Caracas. He then moved on to become the resort manager of two of the most successful Four Seasons Resorts: Punta Mita, Mexico and most recently Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica.
Prior to working with Four Seasons, Rhomberg held a number of positions with Hyatt International, in different countries including Mexico and Argentina. An Austrian national and a graduate from the Viennese College for Tourism Modul, Rhomberg said.
