February 2008 1164

It has taken five years to recreate a modern version of an ancient Qatari Village at the Sharq Village & Spa, which has just opened its doors for conferences, seminars, honeymooners and holidaymakers alike.

Situated five minutes drive from Doha International Airport at a prime location on Doha Bay, Sharq Village & Spa offers 174 luxurious rooms and suites and the large royal villa aptly named Beit Al Shoukh (home of royalty), which is designed to reflect the rich and varied Qatari heritage.
The main hotel is regal, styled like a Sheikh’s Palace (with a blown glass chandelier in the main majlis), it features two ballrooms, a board room and an grand foyer. While the architecture and design may be traditional, the technology is not for the latest in sophisticated conference and business IT equipment is provided.
Also to be found in the main hotel complex is Sharq Village & Spa’s traditional souq. Qatar’s only indoor souq, it offers everything from precious metals and fine jewellery to Arabian trinkets, superb cigars, designer fashion and glamorous furnishings.
Sharq Village & Spa is expected to become a highly popular conference and event venue, being able to cater for up to 950 delegates. High speed wireless internet access is available in the business centre, guest rooms and around the resort.
