Aggressive marketing schemes combined with easing of visa rules for GCC residents has helped Regency Inter-Continental Hotel in Bahrain lift its occupancy rate, says a hotel spokesman.
New shopping malls in Bahrain have also become a major attraction for weekend visitors to the island, boosting hotel occupancy, said the spokesman.
The hotel sees a strong future for tourism in Bahrain with more international hotel brands and renovation and development of existing five-star hotels sure to boost development of the sector on the island.
"Emergence of new shopping malls represents an opportunity for the tourism industry. These venues offer budget to mid-price merchandise and cinemas are opening soon in the vicinity of Bahrain's prime business location, that will add up to the increase in the Saudi and potential Qatari leisure market," said the hotel spokesperson.
"Easing of visa restrictions on GCC residents will also increase traffic, especially from the Saudi Eastern Province."
The spokesperson said other major projects in the pipeline such as the free zone proposal at the Hidd port, the Amway Island plan, Lulu Island, Durrat Al Bahrain and the proposed Bahrain-Qatar causeway will give further impetus to tourism on the island.
Located in the heart of Manama's banking and business district, Regency Inter-Continental is a few minutes walk away from the souk of Bab Al Bahrain.
The hotel's modest exterior conceals an upgraded interior exuding good taste. It offers a full range of facilities.
"Standard guest rooms are notable as the best and biggest in their class, while The Summit executive floors are well worth the premium," the spokesperson said.
The Regency offers a varied dining choice including Versailles, a classical French restaurant and Al Berdaouni, the Lebanese restaurant.
The hotel has lined up a range of promotions for the forthcoming Ramadan and festive season including its popular Al Liwan Ramadan Tent which will be open at the Oasis Pool Terrace during the Holy Month.
Special celebrations are also lined up for the Christmas and New Year period.
