Turkey still a favourite destination for Arab travellers

The total tourism income in Turkey increased by 6.5 per cent in the first nine months of 2007 compared to the same period for 2006, bringing in $14 billion in revenue, according to figures from the Turkish Statistics Institute.

A total of 21.4 million visitors were expected to arrive in the country by the end of 2007. The top-ten arrivals of foreigners came from respectively, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russian Federation, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Iran, U.S.A, France, Italy and Georgia. These top ten countries shared 63,9 per cent of the total arriving foreign visitors.
According to Thierry Bertin, area director of marketing, Middle East, Hyatt International Hotels and Resorts, “Turkey has always been a favourite destination for Middle East Travellers. With Istanbul being one of the most popular cities in the world and located just a short distance away from the Middle East, it is the perfect holiday destination for GCC visitors,” Bertin added.
