US luxury hotel group Marriott International has signed a deal with a Kuwait real estate firm to open its first property in the Gulf state.

It plans to open the 34-storey, 310-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel in 2003, as part of a management agreement with Salhia Real Estate Company.

The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel will be part of a multi-use project at the eastern entrance of Kuwait City that includes the Arraya Shopping Centre, the Arraya Convention Center, the Arraya Office Tower, a plaza of coffee shops and dining outlets, and a multi-storey car park for 1,400 vehicles.

Courtyard by Marriott hotels are aimed at business and leisure travellers who need consistent, high quality accommodation and services at moderate, affordable rates.

There are currently more than 500 Courtyard hotels in 10 countries.
