Senior officials from Oman’s Ministry of Tourism and the country's hospitality industry have been touring the Gulf to promote summer packages in the country and demonstrate that it has a lot to offer even during summer seasons.
In particular, holidays to the twin destinations of Salalah and Muscat were promoted.
The Oman Tourism roadshow, titled ‘Summer in Oman’ was organised by the Ministry of Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman.
“We know that there is a misperception that there is nothing to do in Oman during summer because it is too hot. We want to dispel those rumors and invite travel agents to come and learn what one can do in Oman in summer,” Mark Senior, director of Afkar Marketing Company, which is marketing Oman tourism in the GCC, was quoted as saying by The Peninsula on a visit to Qatar.
Senior said that Oman provides visitors with great value offers and exciting activities during summer, because even if it is hot in certain parts of the country it is cool in other parts – like the cool Khareef in Salalah in the Dhofar region.
“We are encouraging people to do a twin-centre so they can go to see Khareef Festival which takes place from mid-July to the end of August but also come to Muscat for a few days.”

Oman Air holidays have special summer packages where hotel rates are reduced up to 50-60 per cent during summer, said Senior, who is accompanying the 13-strong delegation of tour operators and hotel representatives headed by Ahmed Mohammed Al Abri of Oman's Ministry of Tourism.
Among the sites of interest Senior suggested during summer is Sur, home to traditional dhow building and maritime museum, Ras Al Hadd to see the giant green turtles, the Hoota Caves with their ground lakes, Jebel Akhdhar with its cool weather and breathtaking view and Jebel Shams.
