Fine cuisine on a luxury family holiday? Villa Martha in the picturesque historical town of Ratzeburg, in Northern Germany, perfectly combines the two, while tapping in to the new trend for holidays that are about the experience.

Located within driving distance of Berlin and Hamburg, the 100-year old art deco Villa Martha, which has been carefully renovated, offers six double rooms of highest comfort, complete with show kitchen, winter garden, a lovely waterfront garden and an electric boat for romantic boat rides. “Villa Martha combines an haute culinary experience with a peaceful, private holiday,” the property’s Hans Rautenberg told TTN.
The hotel takes individual bookings of two people as well single groups of 12, “Guests who are looking for privacy with their families, or with a small group of like-minded guests, will find that Villa Martha is the perfect alternative to traditional hotel accommodation,” he said.
A typical cooking holiday features daily workshops at the property’s professional chef academy, where guests get lessons by professionals in food advice, ingredients, the planning and delivery of high class menus and advice on accompanying wines, among other things.
For guests who want to enjoy the fine food, but don’t want the classes, five-day programmes can be created. Three days of sightseeing, by limousine and helicopter to Lübeck, Berlin and Hamburg, are bookended by quiet days at the villa with gourmet dinners. A visit to the Unesco World Heritage town of Lübeck ends with a taste of the world-famous Niederegger marzipan, while a tour of Berlin takes in the famous Brandenburger Tor, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt, Potsdamer Platz and the Reichstag, and the Hamburg trip stops by the Fischmarkt, Reeperbahn and luxury shopping at the Neuer Wall. Dinner experiences include Italian, Euro-Asian and German cuisine.
