Shanghai Old Town

THE Asia Luxury Travel Market (ALTM), the first event in the Asia Pacific aimed exclusively at the luxury end of the travel industry, is being staged in Shanghai from June 18 to 21.

The new annual event showcases the world’s most exclusive hotels, resorts and operators of luxurious travel experiences – and provides them a forum to meet travel-arrangers for the elite.
“With the explosion in wealth and prosperity from the Asia Pacific region, we felt it was time for a dedicated platform for the world’s luxury travel industry to meet face to face with the top buyers from this dynamic region,” said Serge Dive, co-founder of the luxury expo concept.
ALTM is the sister event to the highly successful International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM), which brings the world’s top buyers and sellers of luxury travel together every December in Cannes. Last year’s event attracted over 3,000 travel industry professionals and media, with over 42,000 business-to-business appointments arranged in three days.
“The Cannes event has been an enormous success and we are excited to now bring it to the Asia Pacific,” said Jay Martens, event director of ALTM. “China is one of the exciting markets in the region that we are targeting and what better place to hold the event than Shanghai, Asia’s most exciting and glamorous new city.”
ALTM is staged in a highly exclusive environment in which buyers and sellers meet on a unique pre-arranged appointment system and high-tech devices will allow buyers and sellers to locate one another electronically. The event will be surrounded by a number of exclusive and glamorous networking parties destined to be the talk of the town.
David Hammond, a foremost expert in the luxury travel industry who also co-founded the concept, said: “ALTM will be run like a private club. Only the most exclusive travel suppliers and the most important VIP travel buyers will be allowed to attend.”
Buyers from leading markets in the Asia Pacific region are attending by invitation only and are ‘fully hosted’, he added. To preserve the exclusivity of the inaugural event, only 300 exhibitors and 300 VIP buyers will be allowed to attend the show.
ALTM will be preceded by a high-level conference on the latest trends shaping the world of luxury travel.
