TTN rounds up the big-name RAK projects

Port Arabia (Mina Al Arab)
The Dh10 billion ($ 2.7 billion) project will cover an area of 2.8 million sqm and be spread along 13km of a beachfront strip and a group of islands.

Mina Al Arab will feature numerous resort hotels, an Arabian Adventures theme park, a Thalasso Therapy center, a small water park, a marina, a heritage village and two eco-friendly hotels. The project will also contain a cluster of 3,500 residential units. Amenities will include a harbour, traditional Arabian souk, 310 hectares of open space, and  ecological preserves. The first phase is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2008.

Al Marjan Island
A unique, man-made land reclamation extending approximately two kilometres out into the Arabian Gulf. This will be developed at a cost of Dh2.9 billion as a major tourist resort for Ras Al Khaimah. It features a central lagoon, sites for seven or eight hotel resorts with protected beaches, a marina, and a limited number of luxury villas. Completion is expected mid-2009.

Al Hamra Village
A luxury sea-side resort, with more than 1,350 residential units with a marina, luxury hotels, an 18-hole golf course and numerous leisure and entertainment options. Construction work on the Al Hamra Village project is on schedule. A seven-star hotel will be built on the newly formed man-made island in the projects of the third phase. The Al Hamra Fort Hotel & Beach Resort, built like an Arab fort, was the initial project at Al Hamra Village. At the same beach the Al Hamra Palace Hotel is being built. The Beach Resort and Conference Centre is built in the traditional Arabic palace style with 400 rooms and 37 luxury suites, as well as every wellness facility from an 18-hole golf course to several indoor and outdoor pools.

Jebel Jais Mountain Resort
To be built on one of the most majestic of Ras Al Khaimah's mountains. It will offer a landmark five-star hotel and conference centre, a cable car linking the resort to sea level, luxurious residential units from apartments to small palaces, a snow slope, a climbing and abseiling center, paragliding facilities, a falconry centre as well as a recording centre.

Saraya Islands
A Dh1.83 billion tourism development project being built along the Arabian Gulf coastline of Ras Al Khaimah, Saraya Islands will cover over one million sqm across three islands and contain three five-star hotels, 200 villas, and cultural and commercial venues. The real estate developer is Saudi Oger.
Completion is expected in 2010.

The Cove
The Cove is a beachfront property being built as the second freehold development project in the city of Ras Al Khaimah. The Dh221 million beach resort will cover 50 acres and contain 134 Nubian style furnished chalets and a five-star beach hotel. It is being developed by Orascom and completion is expected this year.
