DUBAI is among the most popular destinations for tourists from Azerbaijan, according to a report.
The news agency Trend quoted officials at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan as saying that Azeri tourists, as a rule, go to Turkey, Russia, CIS countries and Dubai.
The numbers of foreign tourists arriving in Azerbaijan and Azeri tourists going abroad is close to equal, according to the Ministry’s figures. During the first half of 2006, 1.3 million people arrived in Azerbaijan, of which 926,000 were tourists. These are mostly citizens of Europe, Turkey, USA and Russia.
Ministry officials said five years ago outbound Azeri tourists outnumbered foreigners arriving in the country by around 20 to 30 per cent.
