EUROPEAN low-fares airline EasyJet promises to bring even more tourists to Turkey from September 4, when its new service between London Luton and Istanbul's Sabhia Gokcen International Airport goes daily.
The service began August 1 with a thrice weekly service.
Istanbul is part of the airline’s expansion into the Middle East and North Africa, following the recent launch of a route to Marrakech in Morocco. Historically easyJet has focused on growth within the EU thanks to the open skies agreement that allows any airline to operate to any airport within the Union, as this is where the majority of demand for low-fares services has been. However as countries outside the trade bloc forge ever-closer relationships with the UK and Europe, the company sees great potential for growth in these markets and consumers are getting more adventurous with their travel plans.
“This is probably our most significant expansion from London Luton in the last few years,” said Paul Cable, EasyJet's market manager for London said at the time the route began. “EasyJet will continue to lead the industry and identify new opportunities, both geographically and technically, bringing our unique combination of low-costs with care and convenience to travellers."
