Egypt ‘Top Beach Tourism Earner’
AN annual report on beach tourism in Africa receipts by the United Nations Environmental Programme (Unep), puts Egypt in the lead.
The report says Egypt earned an average of $4.5bn annually. South Africa came in at a close second with an average of $4.3bn annually. Morocco was third ($2.7bn), followed by Tunisia ($1.6bn), Mauritius ($0.7bn), Tanzania ($0.45bn), Ghana ($0.4bn) and Botswana ($0.35bn). Namibia and Kenya tied at ninth with $0.3bn.
Plasma screens at Domina Coral Bay

Emaar wins $175m bid
DUBAI’S Emaar Properties has won an auction for a 7km strip of prime luxury tourism real estate on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast for $175 million, a report said. The 6.2 million sqm development will include two five-star hotels, a marina, luxury golf course, shopping centres, a mosque, helipad and sports facilities. The firm will reportedly spend $1.74 billion to develop the site, and the project will be completed five years after receipt of the land. Investment minister Mahmoud Mohieldin said Emaar's proposal for the land, 25km from Al Alamein airport, included plans for 4,023 hotel rooms in addition to more than 5,300 residential holiday units.
