Kasselis named new InterCon VP
InterContinental Hotels has named Phil Kasselis its new vice president of develop-ment, Middle East and Africa.

He has 23 years experience in hotel operations, consulting, hotel develop-ment and brokerage with companies including Horwath Asia Pacific and Accor. He was until recently director of development for IHG, Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific region.

Mitry at Al Sondos Suites
The Al Sondos Suites by Le Meridien has appointed Amin Mitry as its new general manager. Mitry moves from the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel where he was deputy general manager.
He was previously with Sheraton Damascus for 15 years, variously as restaurant manager, banquet manager and director of food and beverage.

New team at Crowne Plaza Dubai
Ricardo Manriquez has been named area director of sales and marketing for Inter-Continental Hotels, UAE and Qatar. he will be based at the Crowne Plaza Dubai.
Ivor Prestwood (above) has joined the Crowne Plaza Dubai as the new hotel manager moving from Holiday Inn Kuwait and Cedric Gaillard has taken charge as the new F&B director.

Fraenkel at Courtyard by Marriott
Courtyard by Marriott, Green Community, Dubai, has appointed Ralf Fraenkel as its food and beverage manager.
Fraenkel’s previous assignments include the Grand Hyatt Berlin, the Four Seasons Berlin and the Grand Hotel Esplanade Berlin. He was also regional sales manager for Robert Mondavi Europe and operations manager at the Elb Lounge, Hamburg.

Dhavejekar joins the Taj Palace Dubai
Dr Deepa B. Dhavejekar has joined the Taj Palace Dubai Ayurveda Spa. She has contributed to the set-up of the Ayurveda center at Champney’s Springs Resort in Leicestershire, UK and opened the Ayurveda center Spa Aguada in Taj Group of Hotels in Goa. Most recently, she was doctor and senior executive at Devaaya, a five-star Ayurveda Spa Resort at Divar Island.

New GM at Mafraq Hotel
Mafraq Hotel, Abu Dhabi, has named Ali Salih as its new general manager. Salih steps into the role from his position of hotel manager at Mirfa Hotel.
Prior to joining Danat Hotels and Resorts, he held several key positions in the UK, such as house manager of Fraser Suites Kensington, and general manager of Brondesbury Park Hotel.

Moukhtar joins Oryx Hotel, Abu Dhabi
Reda Moukhtar has been appointed general manager of the new five-star boutique property, the Oryx Hotel, Abu Dhabi. Moukhtar has been previously with Starwood Hotels for 25 years.
He takes charge at Oryx from his previous position as director of rooms at the Sheraton Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai.

New names at Le Roral Beirut
Le Royal Beirut has announced Ali Haddad (left) as director of sales and marketing and Omar Saade as director of food and beverage.
Haddad brings with him over 14 years of experience from various five star hotel chains in the Levant and the Gulf regions.
Saade was previously the director of the MICE department at the Le Royal.

Dewell joins Sheraton Bahrain Hotel
The Sheraton Bahrain Hotel and Towers has appointed William Dewell as the new director of food and beverage.
Dewell started his career with Hilton International, Australia and has also worked for the Westin Sydney. He has over 10 years of experience in the Middle East, with Rotana Hotels and Deluxe Hotels and Resorts, in Dubai and Egypt.

New team at Four Seasons Doha
The Four Seasons Hotel Doha has appointed Madeleine Olsson (left) as manager and Linn Mostrom as assistant manager at its Spa and Wellness Centre. Olsson, a doctor of osteopathy, has previously worked in places like Sweden, Norway, the USA and Hong Kong. Mostrom has also worked in places like Spain, the USA and Sweden.

Tantawi heads Al Maha Rotana Suites
Mostafa Tantawi has been appointed general manager of the Al Maha Rotana Suites, Abu Dhabi.
Previously, Tantawi was director of sales and public relations at the Beach Rotana Hotel in 1992. He later moved to the position of general manager at the Al Diar Jazira Hotel & Resort. He was also general manager at Al Diar Gulf Hotel & Resort.

Aibara joins Elite Group
The Elite Group, Bahrain has recently appointed Sarosh Aibara (left) as group general manager.
Aibara was previously with President Park Group in Bangkok, managing 12 luxurious apartment and hotel properties. Jamila Missilmani has been promoted to head of sales and Rakesh Popli has been appointed as director sales and marketing.

Thomas goes to Salalah
Shaji Thomas has been named the director of sales at Crowne Plaza Salalah in Oman.
Previously, Thomas has worked for Mercedes-Benz in India as sales manager and was later appointed head of sales and operations at BR Motors in India. Until recently he was marketing manager for MARK, a destination management company in Muscat. 

Lowry joins Crowne Plaza Bahrain
Julian David Lowry has been appointed director of food and  beverage at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain.
He moves from the same position at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort in the Netherlands. Lowry has previously worked with various five-star properties across Europe, Nigeria and Qatar where he was chef garde-manger at the Sheraton Doha.

Grand Hyatt Amman welcomes chef
The Grand Hyatt Amman recently appointed Rabah Abu Sbaitan their new executive chef.
Chef Rabah, an American/ Jordanian national, has worked with several five-star hotels throughout the US and the Middle East. Prior to his new appointment, he was working at the Grand Hyatt Dubai, where he was  also an executive chef.

Chase takes charge at Gulf Hotel
The Gulf Hotel Bahrain recently appointed Stuart Chase as its new general manager.
Chase has held similar positions with Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts, for their city resort in Zhongshan, Hong Kong.
Most recently he was group general manager in Zambia for one of South Africa’s premier destination management companies.

Seng in charge at IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that Singapore Airlines’ chief exec-utive officer Chew Choon Seng is the chairman of the association’s Board of Governors for 2006-7.
He succeeds Robert Milton of Air Canada. Seng will bring a new perspective to his role while continuing the drive for change.

Owain at Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi
The Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi has recently appointed Rhys Owain its assistant food and beverage manager.
Owain has worked with various hotels in the UK working up from trainee manager to food and beverage manager before moving to his new posting in Abu Dhabi. He has experience in fine dinning, conference and banqueting operations.

Nohra moves to Coral International
Fouad Nohra has been appointed as director of technical and services for Coral International Hotels, Resorts & Spas.
Wtih a strong back-ground in electro-mechanical engineering, he has 15 years of experience and was previously with a reputed international chain of hotels with properties on the Arabic Peninsula and in Eastern Europe. 

Jet Airways chooses Moss as COO
Jet Airways has appointed Dale Moss as its new chief operating officer.
Moss started his career with the then BOAC and has held various positions including executive vice president, sales and marketing, USA, with British Airways. He was until recently director of worldwide sales and marketing, worldwide cargo for BA, based in London.
