AMONG the technology being showcased at the hotel show was the new Destination Accommodation Exchange (Daex) software, the world’s first real-time, internet hotel inventory consolidator for multiple and independent hotels worldwide.

The completely automated system interfaces a hotel’s property management system (PMS) and provides near-instant confirmation solutions upon booking.
Quite simply, says eVentures’ Simon Lewis, it will make it easier for the travel industry to book accommodation in Dubai. Designed by Mercator, the global air travel industry’s leading IT solutions supplier, and developed jointly by Micros -Fidelio, the hospitality industry’s leading provider of integrated software solutions, Daex builds on the leading hotel property management system that caters for 99.7% of all five star and 60.2% of all four star hotel rooms in Dubai.
With Daex, travel business can now eliminate human error from the booking process and obtain allocated and non-allocated rooms from a hotel’s management system at the click of a button. Daex helps tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs) streamline their revenue, increase productivity and gives them an additional inventory access channel. Hotels, meanwhile, benefit by increased efficiency, cast savings and market share maintenance through an additional distribution channel.
Daex is also compliant with Open Travel Alliance standards providing hotels a unique Hotel Information Management System (HIMS), allowing hotels to constantly maintain property information and keep clients abreast of new developments from a central system that can be distributed via web services.
Developed after a year of research, Daex can be integrated into existing systems and applications to automate the booking cycle from both hotel and tour operator perspectives. Indeed, says Lewis, some of the hotel chains represented in Dubai have already shown interest in bringing the rest of their world-wide properties onto the system.
