New GMs at Saudi InterCons
The InterContinental Hotels Group has  announced the promotion of Adel Ahmed Al Mahboob (left) as general manager of its New Guest Palace and Dariyyah Conference Palace, Riyadh.

Also promoted is Khalid Al Dhalaan. Currently executive assistant manager at Riyadh Conference Palace he moves to a general manager position at Jeddah Conference Palace.

Movements at InterCon Taba
Ashraf Khalil (left) is the new area general manager for Inter-Continental properties in Egypt’s Taba region, and general manager of the InterContinental Resort Taba Heights. He was previously GM at the Holiday Inn Sharm El Sheikh and Inter-Continental Garden Reef Resort Sharm El Sheikh. Amr El Atreby has been named executive assistant manager.

A Sixth sense for leadership
Jamie Waring (left) has been appointed managing director of Six Senses Spas. He was previously MD Operations for the Six Senses Spas division of the group. Pieter van der Hoeven has taken over as general manger of both Evason Hua Hin Resort and Evason Hideaway at Hua Hin. Pieter was previously manager of the Evason Hua Hin Resort.

Sayess joins Four Seasons Amman
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has recently announced the appointment of its new hotel manager at their Amman property. Lebanese-born Rami Z Sayess moves from Kuwait to take charge in his first Four Seasons appointment. He comes to Amman from his previous position as general manager at the Mövenpick Hotel Kuwait.

Johann appointed to Mövenpick
Reinhold Johann,  formerly at the Jolie Ville Mövenpick Luxor Resort, Egypt, has been appointed general manager, Mövenpick Hotel Kuwait. He started his career in hotels in Saudi Arabia as F&B manager at Al Khozama Hotel and also held positions at Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul,  Shangri-La Hotel Fijian Resort Yanuca Island and Mövenpick Prague.

New faces at Grand Hyatt Dubai
Hyatt International has made several new appointments to its executive committee: Ashwini Kumar has been named resident manager, Christoph Karl Franzen as director of rooms, Paul Murphy as director of events, Eric Weber as executive assistant manager food & beverage and Dorothée Ulrichs as marketing communications manager.

Al Bustan Rotana welcomes Motik
The Rotana Hotels in Dubai & Northern Emirates has appointed Khalid Motik its the new corporate sales director. Motik comes with a wide range of sales experience from five star properties in Morocco and the region. His knowledge and background surely adds to Rotana’s philosophy in combining international know-how with local experience.

Varghese moves on up
Binu Samson Varghese has been promoted to director of sales and marketing for the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi. Varghese joined the hotel from the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi in 2004 as assistant director of sales and has worked hard to develop the sales and marketing department. He is a graduate of the School of Hotel Administration in India.

Hassel’s healing touch
Heading the health and beauty team of the spa at the Doha Marriott is Davina Hassel. The UK national has 15 years experience in the health and beauty industry. She began her career on the Carribbean cruise ships, before moving to Dubai where she was spa manager at a well-known beauty salons. She believes beauty is an individual path of discovery.

Melhem heads Sheraton Dammam
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has appointed Abdullah Melhem as the general manager of the Sheraton Dammam Hotel and Towers in Saudi Arabia.
Melhem is also the group’s area manager for Makkah and Medina. He has 30 years’ experience in North America and the Middle East, including a previous stint in Saudi Arabia.

InterCon Jordan welcomes Abrahams
The InterContinental Jordan has welcomed its new area director of sales and marketing for Jordan and Palestine, Janet Abrahams. She  was promoted as to her new role as area director of sales and  marketing for InterContinental Hotels Group, Middle East and Africa from the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, where she was based for almost two years as director of sales and marketing

Walwyn heads up UAE, Qatar
The InterContinental Hotels Group has announced the appointment of Sean Walwyn as the Group’s new area director of sales and marketing, UAE and Qatar. Walwyn began his career as a holiday helper and food and beverage trainee in London, UK. His most recent position was as area director of sales and marketing for the Africa region.

Mazuka joins Mövenpick Bur Dubai
Sandra Mazuka has been recently named the new public relations manager for Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai. Mazuka began her career with business travel management. She has worked with The Fairmont Hotel Dallas in Texas, USA and most recently at Le Meridien Parkhotel in Frankfurt, Germany as public relations manager and PA to the area general manager.

Alejo at the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi
The Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi has recently welcomed Williams Alejo as restaurant manager. Alejo used to work for the International Sky Chef Catering Company at the International Airport of Venezuela, and later moved to the Radisson Plaza Eurobuilding Hotel. He has also worked at the Radisson Edwardian Mountbatten Hotel London.

Bavaria names new team
Bavaria Hotels International (BHI) has made various appointments: Stefanie Morgner is sales executive for Bavaria Executive Suites Dubai. Khaled Abed (above) is purchasing manager for the hotel. He has been with Sheraton, Steigenberger and Kempinski. Jessica Prelle has been named corporate office administrator for BHI.

Russell appointed at InterCon Dubai
The InterContinental Dubai has appointed Anita Russell its director of human resources. Russell comes directly from the InterContinental Hotels Group Melbourne, Australia where she was manager of talent for four properties. She began as a human resources co-ordinator in Daydream Island, Australia and has worked at the Crowne Plaza, Surfers Paradise.

New faces at the Radisson Muscat
Khamis Kazzaz (left), formerly director of sales and marketing, has been named executive assitant man-ager at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Muscat. Fahad Al Wahaibi has been named the hotel’s assistant director of sales and marketing, moving from his position as sales manager. Joseph Thampan has taken over as training and quality performance manager at the hotel.

New names at Golden Tulip, Bahrain
Daniel Mast has joined Golden Tulip Bahrain as executive chef, from the Golden Tulip Al Bilad Hotel in Saudi Arabia. Dania Soubra has joined Golden Tulip Bahrain as banquet & catering manager.  She was previously with the Sheraton Kuwait and the Le Meridien Kuwait before moving to the Millennium Hotel Sharjah as director of conference and banqueting.

Vertannes take charge with Gulf Air
Gulf Air has announced the appointment of Des Vertannes its head of cargo. Vertannes  started his career with British Airways and has also worked with Air Canada and Menzies Aviation. Vertannes will be heavily involved in all aspects of the airline’s cargo strategy, building on the success that Gulf Air has achieved over the last two years.

Traynor promoted at the InterCon
The InterContinental Hotels Group has promoted David Traynor to area director of sales and marketing for the group’s various properties in Egypt. Traynor has previously worked with Marriott International Hotels and went on to a boutique hotel company followed before joining the InterContinental Citystars team in February 2005.
