Expansions, new openings or closures?
The Canadian brand has a host of openings over the next four years, in New York, California, Kenya and South Africa, among other destinations.
Regionally, the 552-room Fairmont Cairo Nile City, is scheduled to open early 2007. Overlooking Egypt’s Nile River, it will be sited a mere 30 minutes from the Sphinx and Great Pyramids of Giza.
The Fairmont Abu Dhabi Resort & Villas, located on the breakwater island development opposite the Abu Dhabi Corniche and comprising 265 guestrooms plus 50 villas, is set to open in 2008. Nineteen restaurants and bars will be situated in and around the resort, while network of seawater canals will connect the various facilities, with specially designed Arabic boats known as shashas transporting guests around.
Also set for 2008 are the Fairmont Palm Hotel & Resort and the Fairmont Palm Residences on The Palm Jumeirah, in close proximity to the islands’ main features. The complex will be comprised of a 300-room luxury resort with 460 vacation ownership residences.
