Turner at InterCon Citystars, Cairo
InterContinental Hotels has been appointed Janet Turner as sales manager, conference and banqueting at the InterContinental Citystars, Cairo.

Turner has more than ten years’ experience in sales and marketing with leading automotive and racing organisations including DRM Ferrari Racing and Brands Hatch Circuits Limited.

Changes at Crowne Plaza, Abu Dhabi
InterContinental Hotels Group has appointed Khaled Elnory as the new sales manager at Crowne Plaza, Abu Dhabi. Elnory has seven years’ experience in luxury hotels, having held various positions in sales and marketing. The hotel has also promoted Tarek Haroun to sales executive. Haroun previously worked, for over four years as guest service agent in the hotel.

New appointments at Al Murooj Rotana
Al Murooj Rotana Hotel & Suites has appointed two new executives to its management team. Amandio Martins, who brings with him a wealth of experience in revenue management having worked at various hotels within Starwood, joins the property as revenue manager. Sami Hattar, on the other hand, has been appointed as conference and banqueting director. Hattar, who has held various positions in sales and catering with leading hotel chains, was previously banquet and conference manager at the InterContinental Resort, Al Ain.

Salha is InterCon’s area revenue manager
InterContinental Hotels Group has appointed Monjed Salha as area revenue manager for the Northern Gulf. Salha was earlier executive assistant manager, sales and marketing, at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain. He worked for Leading Hotel Group’s properties in the UK before joining InterContinental Hotels in 2000.

New at InterCon Hotels Group
InterContinental Hotels Group has appointed Michael Wakefield as corporate counsel for its MENA operations and Simon Tempest as the company’s European leisure representative based in the UK, taking responsibility of all the Egyptian properties to markets including the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Russia and Scandinavia. Wakefield studied law at the UK’s Nottingham Law School and spent a year working as a paralegal in Dubai before completing his training with a law firm based with offices in both London and Oman.

Storey joins Jordan Valley Marriott Resort
Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa has appointed Russel Storey as director of food and beverage (F&B). Storey, who began his career in the hotel industry at the Regent Palace Hotel as a security officer, was F&B manager at the Westville Hotel in Natal, South Africa, before relocating to the UK as assistant F&B manager at the Forte Crest Hotel in Gatwick. He was also F&B manager at Birmingham Marriott and director of operations at the Glasgow Marriott before taking up his new position. 

Dayoub at Millennium Hotel, Abu Dhabi
Adnan Dayoub has been appointed as the new F&B manager at the Millennium Hotel, Abu Dhabi. Dayoub has over 15 years’ experience in various international hotel chains. He plans to use his experience to offer something unique at the Millennium Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

Borckenstein-Quirini joins InterCon
Philip Borckenstein-Quirini has joined InterContinental Muscat as assistant F&B manager from InterContinental London, where he was for the last eight months.  Prior to this, he was at the Hotel Eden Roc, Ascona, Switzerland.  This is Borckenstein-Quirini’s first job in the Gulf and he’s looking forward to the challenges ahead in his new assignment.

Pereira at Grand Hyatt Muscat
The Grand Hyatt Muscat has appointed Leonard Pereira as director of catering. Pereira started his career at the Hyatt Regency Riyadh as conference and banquet manager. He takes up his new position from Grand Hyatt, Dubai, where he held the position of assistant banquet manager.

New chefs at Al Diar Siji
Chef Rogelio Martin Mico has joined Al Diar Siji Hotel, Fujairah, as its new executive sous chef while Chef Mohammad Raouf has been appointed as the new pastry chef. Chef Mico will be responsible for planning the day-to-day menus and coordinating budgeting and purchases for all food operations. Chef Raouf, on the other hand, will ensure the smooth flow of the culinary operations of the pastry kitchen.

Chef Arabi joins Coral Deira, Dubai
The Coral Deira, Dubai, has appointed Chef Rabih Arabi as executive chef. Before moving to Coral Deira, he was working at Le Meridien Forte Village, Sardinia, as promotion chef, preparing a medley of cuisines during the summer peak season. Chef Rabih has worked for top hotel chains in the Middle East including Sheraton, InterContinental and Le Méridien.

Voncini at Amman Marriott Hotel
Amman Marriott Hotel has appointed Luca Umberto Voncini as specialty sous chef. Luca, who specialises in Northern Italian culinary-style cooking, brings with him a great deal of expertise, passion and inspiration. He promises to create dishes that mama used to make back home.

Chef Boggio joins Sheraton Doha
Sheraton Doha Hotel & Resort has appointed Master Chef Roberto Boggio as its new executive sous chef for the popular Italian Trattoria La Veranda. Roberto, whose family owns the famous Il Rustico restaurant, has worked with Grand Master Chefs like Vergè, Girardet and Paul Bocouse.

Lots cooking at Hilton Dubai Jumeirah
Hilton Dubai Jumeirah has appointed Hans-Jürgen Gorsler as the executive chef and Matthew James as executive sous chef. Chef Gorsler was previously with Hilton International in Bahrain and has also worked at the Gatwick Hilton and Hilton Shanghai while Chef James, who was previously with Kuwait Hilton, has worked at the Hilton Park Lane and the Athenee Hilton Bucharest.
