Value pricing, convenient flights and a wide range of sightseeing options are among the major attractions of the new summer holiday packages launched this month by SriLankan Airlines.

The airline’s holiday division is also offering a special ayurveda ‘taster’ package plus a short break in Maldives for those wishing to relax but with only a few days to spare.
Lead-in price is Dh1,910 for a four-day tour to the hill country or Dh2,180 for a four-day resort stay in the Maldives, with connecting flights to Male via Colombo, rising to Dh2,540 for a week-long tour of the major tourist sites in Sri Lanka, all inclusive of return economy flights, tours and double accommodation in four- and five- star hotels.
According to chief executive, Peter Hill the tour programmes have been designed to appeal to a wide variety of tastes, offering visitors an opportunity to see beyond the beach to the ancient culture, landscapes from paddy fields to mountain waterfalls and even taking in the indigenous ayurvedic spa therapy.
“While Sri Lanka is a relatively small country, it encompasses a world of opportunity for exploration, for leisure, for sports and for shopping – and these new packages offer a convenient way to sample what’s on offer, just a few hours’ flying distance away from the Gulf,” he said.
The five-day Ayurveda programme at the Tree of Life hotel in Kandy includes a private consultation, special menus, body treatments, massage, foot treatment plus Shirodhara, Pindasweda and Abbiyanga therapies, and is priced from Dh2,430 per person sharing a double room.
A Dh2,290 five-day Highlights of Sri Lanka tour takes in the famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, Dambulla Cave Temple, the fifth century rock temple at Sigiriya, ancient capital of Kandy, an overnight stay at the hill resort of Nuwara Eliya and return to the capital, Colombo, for shopping and then a bit more shopping.
Alternative programmes include a short break visiting Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, priced from Dh1,910 sharing a double room, or a beach stay at Beruwela on the west coast, where five nights/six days costs from Dh2,020.
For the perfect combination, the Glimpses of Sri Lanka package takes in Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Beruwela beach and Colombo, and is priced from Dh2,540.
Prices, valid until September, are exclusive of airport and airline taxes, and are subject to a Dh420 supplement for travel to Sri Lanka till July 15, or Dh100 for the Maldives package, while child prices are around Dh1,000 extra, if sharing the parents’ room.
SriLankan currently offers 28 weekly flights between Dubai and Colombo, including codeshare operations with Emirates, and has introduced additional services to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Dammam.
