AFIR Hotels & Resorts, one of the first specialised hotel manage-ment organisations based in the Middle East, is committed to contribute to the advancement of the hotel industry, through active participation in various professional associations.

The parent company is Kuwait Hotels Company, which over the years has been involved in several prestigious hotel ventures including the establishment of a catering division named Safat Catering Services Company. The Safir Group owns 50 per cent of the Abou Nawas Hotel Management Company, which operates 19 hotels in Tunisia. The group operates in Kuwait, UAE, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria and Algeria and new properties are under construction in Kuwait, Egypt and Lebanon.
Since January this year, Safir Hotels & Resorts and Swiss Inn have formed a strategic alliance. Under this agreement, both parties will explore business opportunities in areas of hotel and resort development, acquiring of hotel management contracts and joint marketing and promotion activities. Since its privatisation in August 2003, Safir’s majority shareholder is UREC (United Realty Estate Company), which is part of KIPCO (Kuwait Projects Company), a Kuwait-based conglomerate with major interests regionally and internationally. KIPCO, with assets of more than $10 billion under management or control, is the most actively traded stock on the Kuwait Stock Exchange.
Under the umbrella of KIPCO, the overall plan is to strengthen the services offered by Safir Hotels & Resorts and build up the company to a leading  level in the region and internationally. Hospitality experience includes ownership of a catering company and several hotels in the region, including the Sheraton Heliopolis in Cairo. New hotels are under construction in Lebanon and Kuwait.
