World’s largest underwater theme park to open in Bahrain soon

Since its inception in 2015, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has steered its efforts towards consistently marketing and promoting the Kingdom of Bahrain as a unique destination in the region by developing and executing major projects under the umbrella of ‘Ours.Yours’.

In the first half of 2019, Bahrain attracted a total of six million visitors, contributing a total of BD 843.1 million ($2.3 billion) to the national economy, an increase of 3.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The tourism strategy ‘Ours.Yours’ focuses on four main pillars – ‘awareness, attraction, access and accommodation’; and aims to improve the overall accessibility of the Kingdom, attract exhibitions and conferences, enhance the quality of services in the tourism and hospitality sectors, and strengthen the position of Bahrain as an ideal tourist destination for families and international tourists. The aim is to position the tourism sector as one of the main contributors to the national economy.

Echoing the strategy, the BTEA is continuously introducing new and exciting events and attractions to its annual calendar including local and international events and festivals in order to attract families and visitors from the region and abroad.

Furthermore, and as a part of its long-term plans to develop unique tourism products and experiences that sets Bahrain apart from its competitions, the BTEA will soon be launching the world's largest underwater theme park. The collaborative effort project will be launched with the support from the Supreme Council for Environment and the private sector. The unique diving and eco-friendly project covers an area of over 100,000 sqm and will provide a differentiated and enjoyable experience for tourists and diving enthusiasts alike.

Other plans include the development of new beach waterfronts and public beaches across the Kingdom including a beach area across Bahrain Bay, a new beach in Al Galali and the Al Ghous Waterfront project.

In order to further promote Bahrain to the wider audience, a total of seven representative offices were launched by the BTEA in order to strengthen its presence, relations and partnerships with travel and tourism organisations, tour operators, travel agents and airlines across the world.

In order to drive the development of the Kingdom’s Mice sector, BTEA continuously hosts and takes part in leading international events and business conferences to strengthen the position of Bahrain as a key business destination. The authority has also been focusing on growing Bahrain’s Mice potential with the announcement of a new exhibition centre that will be built next to the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

The Kingdom continues to reaffirm its position as a tourism destination of choice with a number of new hotels, retail and leisure developments in the pipeline; as part of its pursuit to continuously develop the tourism sector as a whole and consistently providing a unique experience for visitors.
