Launched in the year 2000 with the mission to develop, co-ordinate and manage tourism in Qatar in order to maximize the local economy and to preserve the Qatari culture and traditions, the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) brings together various businesses and agencies that work in tourism and gives a new impetus to the development and promotion of the tourism industry.
The role of QTA is to organise, enable and supervise tourism industry development in Qatar, represent and promote Qatar as a tourism destination at the international travel fairs, generate meetings and incentives market, ensure overall coordinated tourism infrastructure development. QTA works closely with other government ministries, associations and the community of Qatar.
The Authority gets actively involved in organising events and promotions, which positively reflect on the general image of Qatar as an evolving tourism destination.
QTA is working closely with the national airline Qatar Airways and its sister company "Discover Qatar", inbound destination management division of Qatar Airways.
The QTA team consists of 11 different nationalities.
The majority of the employees and all the members of the Board of Directors are Qatari nationals.
