Lufthansa has received top awards from the prestigious Onboard Service Magazine of the USA for its outstanding inflight service.

The airline won a total of five awards. The first prize, Diamond Award, and two second prizes, Emerald Awards, in the categories tableware, Duty Free and uniforms as well as for Food Service and Equipment.

First prize in the Duty Free category was awarded for the range of products. In the Uniforms category, Lufthansa's corporate identity and new-look design convinced the jury, which also gave the airline top marks in this section. Lufthansa views the awards as confirmation of its inflight service concept. "In addition to our exclusive menus created by top international chefs, we provide a tasteful framework in which the tableware and service harmonise with the food and drinks", commented Thomas Sattelberger, executive vice president products and services at Lufthansa.

In order to cater to the tastes of its customers, Lufthansa introduced an innovative inflight service concept in January last year. 'Connoisseurs on Board' consists of three tiers - 'Star Chefs', 'Taste Europe' and 'Vinothek Discoveries'.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa is currently the only airline in the world carrying an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which can be installed and operated on wide-bodied aircraft for the transport, of patients who need intensive medical treatment.

At a medical conference held recently in Dubai, Doris Ehring from Central Services Lufthansa's headquarters in Frankfurt introduced this unique product.

"Last year, we had over 40 transports and the demand is growing particularly in the Arab world", Ehring explained. "Lufthansa as a network carrier has become an alternative to special ambulance charter aircraft, which are also usually more expensive", Ehring said.
