Kerala looks to Qatar

Doha's Gulf Horizon Hotel is to launch special package tours for leisure travellers from Qatar to the southern Indian state of Kerala, a report said.

The move follows Kerala Tourism Development Corporation's (KTDC) decision to appoint the hotel as its authorised general sales agent (GSA) for Qatar.

Gulf Horizon managing partner M Rajan, quoted by the Gulf Times, said the appointment of GSAs in foreign countries was part of Kerala's ongoing campaign to attract more tourists.

"Kerala's tourism potential is immense with its beautiful landscape and fine beaches. And the state government is running an aggressive international campaign to attract tourists with excellent results," Rajan said in remarks published in the newspaper.

He said the hotel, in co-operation with KTDC, would soon launch package tours to Kerala.

"People seeking to benefit from Ayurveda, India's traditional branch of medicine widely practised in Kerala, will have special packages to cater to them," Rajan was quoted as saying.

"We expect a big increase in the number of foreign tourists."
