Tried and Tested: Jumeirah Messilah

A day at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa turns out to be tasteful and relaxing, discovers Kim Thomson

I arrived late at Sheikh Saad Al Abdallah Terminal airport due to a system failure at immigration, on a recent business trip to Kuwait. It was a pleasant surprise then that the representative from the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa was still smiling and greeting me warmly.

During the short journey aboard the air-conditioned hotel car (an optional service), the driver asked me if the music was to my taste and provided practical information about Kuwait and the shopping hotspots.

On arrival, I was welcomed by name by the doorman. This may seem like a small thing and a number of luxury hotels do this, but it really makes one feel special. Even though there is security check at the entrance – standard practice in all Kuwait hotels – it was smooth and hassle free. I was lead directly into my room for check-in formalities, a stress-free way to start the stay, especially if one is on a tight schedule with business meetings immediately following arrival.

With 316 rooms and suites, 80 residential suites and 12 villas, Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa provides one of the best choices in Kuwait for any of your client’s needs. The hotel room size ranges from the deluxe 40 sq m to the 60 sqm grand deluxe. The suites offer anywhere from 80 sq m to 350 sq m. The residential suites and villas vary as well and offer anything from one bedroom to five-bedroom villas.

No doubt my grand deluxe room made me an object of jealousy on social media, and rightly so, because the king-sized bed was so comfortable, it was hard to come out of it the next morning. Twin beds can also be requested if desired. The grand deluxe room featured a separate sitting area and a working desk, both added bonuses as I prefer to sit at a desk to catch up on emails. Similarly, I prefer to sit on the sofa if I dine in the room, while watching TV, in this case a 42-inches LCD TV. Also available in all rooms are coffee and tea making facilities – perfect for that morning cuppa – and, of course, a safe and a mini bar. The bathroom had both a walk in-shower and a bath.

With six food and beverage offerings, the hotel’s client will be spoilt for choice. With the weather cooling down, I chose the al fresco dining option at Italian restaurant Olio to enjoy the delicious clam spaghetti.

Jumeirah Hotels all feature the famous Talise Spa. Here in Kuwait, the spa expands over 3,500 sqm offering an extensive range of treatments with 17 treatment rooms including two private suites and separate dedicated ladies and men’s areas. I was fortunate enough to try the Swedish massage after a long day and it was bliss. Also part of the spa are the fitness facilities with the state-of-the-art equipment and a personal trainer for advice and help.

With two swimming pools, a 200 m private beach and an area of outdoor activities including a flood-lit tennis court, means your clients will never be lost for activity. Children are looked after at Sinbad’s Kids Club, while teenagers can enjoy a private cinema, full-sized pool table and video games.

The meetings and incentives market is a particular focus for the hotel with its state-of-the-art conference and banqueting facilities. Within two years of its opening the hotel has already won two World Travel Awards for Kuwait’s Leading Business hotel.
