ESTABLISHED by the Malaysian Government’s investment arm, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH) is a strategic owner and developer of world-class premier destinations and Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn Bhd (Tar) are both working towards developing, managing and operating theme parks and attractions across Malaysia.

Both organisations elevate the national tourism landscape by investing, developing and managing world-class destination resorts and bring premier international theme parks and attractions to the region.

The current key investment portfolio comprises Desaru Coast, the region’s first integrated luxury destination located at Johor’s Desaru coastline, Little Red Cube and Traders Hotel at the luxury waterfront of Puteri Harbour in Nusajaya and Teluk Datai, Langkawi, a luxury eco-tourism destination surrounded by ancient rainforest and breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea.

This May, DRH unveiled the launch of its most recent project, The Els Club Teluk Datai, an 18-hole championship golf course set in a beautiful island in Langkawi, nestled within a centuries-old rainforest with towering lush tropical foliage. The Els Club elevates the status of the country in the golf fraternity as the first such branded golfing facility in Southeast Asia.

Created by one of the greatest minds in golf business landscape design, an established professional hall of fame golfer and founder of Els Design; Ernie Els partnered with DRH to strategically design and build three Troon managed championship golf courses in Malaysia, the first of which is The Els Club Teluk Datai.

Ken Kosak, general manager, The Els Club Malaysia, commented on the imminent opening, “The course is looking simply stunning following a successful growing-in period. This is one of the most significant launches for South East Asian Golf and we will be striving to set a new standard for luxury in the region. We have been offering very limited preview play since December and guests have unanimously praised both the all-round quality of the course and the jaw-dropping setting in which it is located.”

The Els Club Teluk Datai is located adjacent to the award-winning resort, The Datai Langkawi. Another two championship golf courses of the The Els Club Malaysia will be located in Desaru Coast, the region’s first luxury integrated destination in southern state of Peninsular Malaysia, Johor. Desaru Coast presents seamless integration of four luxury hotels and resorts complemented with differentiated leisure and entertainment offerings such as water theme parks.

In addition to the golf courses, Desaru Coast will also be home to the Els Residences, exclusive villas resembling Ernie Els’ lifestyle with expansive views of the golf course. The villas are ideal for golf-holidaymakers as they offer convenient accessibility to the club facilities for a complete premium golf experience.

Besides Desaru Coast, DRH has also developed Little Red Cube, an integrated retail lifestyle and family entertainment complex, and Traders Hotel Puteri Harbour, both of which are strategically located at the luxurious waterfront of Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya in Johor.

Hello Kitty will celebrate its 40th anniversary in grandeur at the first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town attraction outside Japan in Puteri Harbour. Themed ‘Arigato Hug You’, a three-day celebration will be held from October 31 until November 2 this year at the Little Red Cube. The festival features a bazaar selling food, clothing, strolling performers, and a Hello Kitty concert where Japanese, Korean and Malaysian pop acts will attempt to break the Guinness and Malaysian Book of Records for the ‘Largest Hello Kitty Fans Gathering’.

Tar will be teaming up with the one of the leading design houses in the country to run a fashion contest, with the grand prize being a trip to Sanrio Puroland in Japan. “Family playtime these days is scarce and we hope that spending time at our attractions will help to strengthen family ties in a fun, constructive and even educational way,” says Y.M. Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin, managing director and chief executive officer of Tar.
