Lufthansa has appointed Karsten Zang as general manager, UAE, and director, Gulf and Pakistan, to lead the sales and marketing operations of both Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines. With a career spanning 25 years, Zang has held various key posts in the services industry.






Dusit Thani appoints DOSM

Aaishah Bohari has recently joined Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi as the director of sales and marketing. A Malaysian national, Bohari brings a wealth of international experience to the table, along with more than 20 years of sales and marketing with luxury hotels spread across four different countries.






Ciancio returns to Four Seasons

Four Seasons Hotel Doha has announced the appointment of Gisela Ciancio as director of human resources. The promotion sees Ciancio move to Qatar from Four Seasons Hotel New York, where she spent the last two years working as senior learning and development manager as well as innovation champion.






Café Royal makes Mice appointment

Juliana Marchini has been appointed senior sales manager for the meetings, incentives, conferences and events market at Café Royal hotel. Having worked both in events and sales over the past nine years, she has a strong understanding of the luxury hospitality industry. Most recently, she was senior sales manager at London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor.






Tat joins convention centre

Oh Kin Tat has been appointed sales manager, conventions and conferences for Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. He will be responsible for maximising venue occupancy and yield for conferences held at the facility. He comes with 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry.







Alessandro returns after 20 years

Intercontinental Phoenicia’s Café Mondo welcomes Italian master chef Alessandro Morelli, a native of Pisa in Tuscany. Alessandro returns to Beirut after 20 years and brings with him a wealth of experience gained in his homeland and an extensive international career throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East.






Samy returns to Taj Palace

Asser Samy rejoins the Taj Palace Hotel Dubai as director of sales and marketing. He was previously associated with the hotel as director of sales. The Egyptian national has worked for 23 years in Dubai’s hospitality sector, and is fluent in Arabic, English and French.







New chef for Monte-Carlo

Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat, has appointed Chef Gavin Gleeson as executive chef to oversee the club’s fine dining restaurant, Le Deck, the Sea Lounge and Bubbles Bar. Gavin has worked at two Michelin-starred restaurants in London and Dublin, and most recently as the executive chef at Marco Pierre White’s Wheelers in Dubai.






Asatova returns to Jumeirah

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray has appointed Sayyora Asatova as director of sales. With over 15 years of experience in hospitality, Asatova previously worked with the Jumeirah Group at Burj Al Arab as business development manager. Her last position was at Atlantis, The Palm, as the director of international leisure sales.






Coventry joins IBTM

Reed Travel Exhibitions has announced the appointment of Sallie Coventry as the new portfolio director for the IBTM events portfolio. Before this, Coventry was managing director of W&O, where she successfully oversaw double-digit growth of her key accounts over three consecutive years.







Gordon returns to Hyatt

Grand Hyatt Dubai has announced Roddy Gordon’s appointment as director of sales and marketing and area director of sales and marketing for Hyatt Hotels in Dubai. Gordon started his career in the UAE as the pre-opening director of marketing when Grand Hyatt Dubai was opened.







Six Senses welcomes Shorthouse

Neil Shorthouse has been appointed corporate director of human resources at Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. Shorthouse will be based at the Six Senses home office in Bangkok. He comes from a varied background focused on operations, as well as human resources and training.







New GM at Chedi Muscat

General Hotel Management (GHM) has installed Markus Iseli as general manager of the Chedi Muscat on the Gulf of Oman. Iseli most recently managed the preopening and soft opening of the Palazzo Parigi, a Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) member in Milan, Italy. The Muscat posting marks the Swiss native’s third stint in the Middle East.






Pereira joins Viceroy Maldives

Viceroy Maldives has announced the appointment of Lorraine Thomas-Pereira as the new director of sales. She brings ten years of extensive hospitality experience from across the Middle East to her new role. She started her career in sales as a group sales coordinator in Jumeirah Beach Hotel.







HMH names director of operations

Abdullah Melhem has been appointed director of operations at HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings. He brings valuable experience to the table having spent 14 years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and 15 years with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.







DTTAG appoints board member

The Dubai Travel and Tour Agents Group (DTTAG) has appointed Dina Al Herais, vice-president, commercial operations and distribution at Emirates Holidays, to its executive board. As the tour-operating arm of Emirates Airline, Emirates Holidays is a significant player in the development of the travel industry in Dubai.






Al Raha hires F&B director

Al Raha Beach Hotel has appointed George Chatziemmanouil as director of food and beverages. Tareq Emil Halasa has also joined the hotel as spa and recreation manager. Chatziemmanouil and Halasa come with more than 15 and 10 years of experience respectively, in their areas of speciality.






Abu Hassan named hotel manager

Bassam Abu Hassan has been promoted to the position of hotel manager of Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea. Abu Hassan enjoys over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, specifically with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), in which he started out at InterContinental Jordan, and grew with IHG in its various properties in Jordan.






Award-winning culinary director

A month after receiving the Executive Chef of the Year award by Hotelier Middle East 2013, Sebastian Nohse is director of culinary in the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. Nohse will lead a team of 280 chefs, manage 22 kitchens and operate world-class dining outlets including Rang Mahal, Nawwara and Prime 68, among others.
