Hotels and hotel apartments in Dubai hosted 3.62 million guests last year, compared with 3.42 million in the previous year.
Figures from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) showed 1.51 million Arab nationals checked in at the emirate's hotels and hotel apartments last year, up 6.48 per cent on the previous year.
The five Gulf states of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman contributed a total of 845,716 guests, up 9.69 per cent from 2000 figures. However, there were only 67,498 guests from Qatar, a 9.31 per cent decline. The Saudi guests numbered 406,695 last year, up from 339,163 in 2000.
The report said 84,697 US nationals stayed in hotels and hotel apartments last year as against 86,087 in 2000.
