Onyx prepares for expansion with first non-Thai property

ONYX Hospitality Group, Thailand’s leading hotel management company, has signed its first international property the Amari Addu Maldives which is scheduled to reopen in November 2011.

Set in Addu, the southernmost atoll in the Maldives, approximately 480 km south of Male, the 271-villa resort features a 4-km beach.

Since assuming management for the existing property, in December 2010, Onyx has embarked on a series of upgrades including enhancements to the beach, arrival experiences and villas.

In Thailand Oriental Residence Bangkok, featuring 145 luxury serviced residences, is scheduled to open in October as the group’s first luxury property under the Saffron brand.

Last year, the company completed its acquisition of Shama, the serviced apartments brand, which is the beginning of the group’s growth strategy into Asia.

With the new acquisition, Onyx now manages 13 properties in China.

According to Onyx CEO, Peter Henley: “We are extremely pleased with this new acquisition. It is a high performing brand that we believe will fit perfectly into and compliment the Onyx brand portfolio. We are already reaping the benefits of this new acquisition and have signed new contracts for properties in Sanya and Zhegzhou.”

Further in the pipeline, the company’s first three-star property, the Ozo Resort Koh Samui and the Amari Hua Hin will open in 2012.
