THE long-awaited opening of the GCC’s first thalassotherapy spa, the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, was due to take place at the end of Febuary.

The property, situated on the beach in the south of the island, features an extensive thalassa sea and spa complex covering 2,000 sq m on two levels – ground floor for ladies and first floor for men – and has been designed with care to ensure privacy and tranquility for every guest.

The complex features 14 treatment rooms, six for dry treatments and eight for wet, combining seawater hydrotherapy, massages and wellness programmes.

Facilities include a seawater hydrotherapy pool, a freshwater pool, saunas, steam rooms, a hairdresser for men and beauty salon for women as well as a recreation and yoga studio.

Spokeswoman Areej Mohieldin said: “The treatments at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq, Thalassa Sea & Spa help take care of the body, mind and spirit, to lastingly protect it through a comprehensive approach that combines therapy, sports activities and healthy diet.

“During a stay providing deep-down regeneration and revitalisation guests can experience all the benefits of thalassotherapy in an atmosphere where they can dream and relax the time away.

“Our location has exceptional beauty located right by the sea which will help to enhance this feeling of escape and promote perfect harmony between body and mind.”

Programmes include week-long stays – six days of therapy which is said to be the ideal length of time to really feel the lasting benefits of thalassotherapy for about four to six months after a visit.

The choice of therapy weeks ranges from fitness, harmony and slimness to health, mother and baby and detox and coaching tonic weeks.

There are also short stays, for those seeking a one-, two- or three-day getaway, therapy à la carte at the property’s institute and beauty space, and beauty stopovers offering a range of facial and body treatments using the Aqua Science Marine cosmetics line and Skinceuticals brands.

The facility is staffed by a small army of fully-trained professionals waiting to bring the thalassotherapy dream to life all in the surroundings of $150-million, five-star property which also boasts 262 lavish sea view rooms, including 28 suites, and major meeting and ballroom space.
