HONG KONG was one of the destinations visited in a roadshow conducted by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) late last year aimed at boosting awareness of the country’s offerings as a destination for Mice travel, sport, culture and upscale tourism.

The visit was part of a wider roadshow visiting the Asia Pacific region and more than 70 Hong Kong travel trade professionals attended.

Ahmed Al Nuaimi, chairman of QTA said:  “As a complement to our participation at international travel exhibitions, Qatar Tourism Authority has organised this roadshow throughout Asia to deepen our ties and to build new relationships with the tourism and travel professionals in Hong Kong and the other major cities on the tour.  We aim to build networks facilitating future business in tourism.

“Qatar and Asia enjoy a friendly alliance which is strengthened through strong business relationships and strategic partnerships.  Investment companies and asset managers in China and Hong Kong have been looking more closely at opportunities in Qatar and the Middle East region, looking to optimise capital and build partnerships and Qatar has made strategic investments in companies involving Hong Kong partners.”

Shadow Mak, manager of corporate and leisure travel at Globetrotter Travel, came to explore  packages which could be organised for long weekend trips for incentive and corporate clients.

“We are looking for a new destination and new products to recommend to our clients,” she said. “In the Middle East we know about Dubai, but we are very interested to learn about what Qatar has to offer.  We are looking for an itinerary for them to experience all the unique aspects about a destination in this period of time.  Qatar is a very good option.”
